The National Gallery

National Gallery, hosted by London, is an institution of art and, especially, the culture born from the desire to give everyone – not just connoisseurs of art – the possibility of combining beauty with useful and necessary for spiritual growth. National Gallery, unlike other major museums in Europe, has a relatively recent history. This young age can be seen in the fact that, unlike other museums, the National Gallery collection does not inherit any royal or even of any aristocrat, was established by parliamentary legislation in 1824. National Gallery was founded in 1824 when the House of Commons voted purchasing collections of paintings banker John Angerstein.

The 38 paintings were first exhibited at Angerstein’s house Pall Mall. Nowadays, the National Gallery has one of the most interesting collections of European paintings in the world collection which is exhibited in a building built for her in central London. As the National Gallery building was extended and developed over the years, so has happend and paintings collection which now numbers over 2.300 works of art.

The National Gallery is undoubtedly a landmark in London and is an opportunity to spend several hours in a very pleasant way.
